To Tweet or Not to Tweet?
Filed under: Alex Jeffreys' Coaching; Tagged as: alex jeffreys, jim edwards, social media marketing, twitterI’m a little confused. Maybe it’s because I missed part of the coaching call tonight, and it’ll all be revealed when I watch the whole thing without 17 other things going on at the same time for me. But here’s what I’m confused about. It’s this whole twitter thing.
I know Alex Jeffreys talked a lot about twitter in the call tonight, and he’s obviously a big fan. But I watched a video just a few days ago from another marketer whose opinion I respect, Jim “Hawaiian Shirt” Edwards.
On that video he announced what he considered The Worst Idea of 2008, or some title similar to that, and the recipient of his “award” was none other than Twitter. According to Jim, it’s the biggest time waster ever presented to the Internet community.
Now, I’ve stayed pretty much away from the whole social networking thing, until just recently. I don’t have a page on Myspace or Facebook, and I’ve often wondered if I’m missing out on something.
You hear so many conflicting opinions expressed when it comes to social marketing and networking…some say it’s the wave of the future and you better get in and get involved. Others say the traffic generated is untargeted and virtually worthless.
So I guess my question is, have you personally had any experience you could share with how you’ve used Twitter or any of the other social media to bring traffic to your site?
I’d love to hear your opinions!

Hey Honey.
Strange thing. I watched the Jim Edwards webinar too and as Alex was talking about twitter I thought “sure, but I’ll go with Big Jim for now”.
I’ve got the webinar playing over my stereo whilst sat reading ‘The Attractor Factor’ by Joe Vitale right at the part where he’s talking about how we dismiss things all the time, thinking we know best of course
I checked my email and got one from another IM’r I read regularly, totally recommending i follow him on twitter as he’s got some cool stuff coming soon.
That was enough for me - I joined up pretty sharp’ish. I think Jim’s great but I gonna give Alex et al the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Cheers,

Twitter is one of those weird phenomenons that takes a bit of getting into. I remember when I first started Twittering, I was like, what on earth….. I don’t see the point.
Yes, it can be very addictive and yes, it can be a time waster, in the sense that you can end up spending too much time on there at the expense of working on other things.
Twitter is different things to different people. Some use it to promote their companies, you will see that they have a company username instead of a personal one; some promote affiliate links on there all the time; some post links to interesting products.
Personally, I don’t really use Twitter for `selling’. I use it to get to know people and hopefully they will like my banter and check out my blog and other stuff.
The power of social networking shouldn’t be overlooked. People are much more likely to buy from someone or work with someone that they feel they `know’, than a total stranger, I think.
Give it a go, even if you restrict yourself to, say, half an hour at the end of each day, to catch up with the 500 — I bet you’ll get to like it
Take care

Hi Honey,
I know where you’re coming from with Twitter. I was beginning to wonder what was the point of it - that is until Alex explained it last night. That gave me a light bulb moment.
I’ve just finished a post on my blog that explains how I am using and making the most of Twitter to encourage traffic - automatically. You can check it out at http://daveeverettonline.com/traffic-generation-starting-position.php
Nice blog - keep it up.

Thanks for popping by
Twitter is superb - it allows to to build up your ‘tribe’ of followers and tweets can be interactions, ways to get to know potential jvs (who you would never normally be able to get close to using email) and draw people to your blog/money pages.
If you sign up to ping.fm you can broadcast a micro message to all your social networks one time

Hello Honey,
Just a quick post - I am checking out lots of blogs today, but regarding social networking sites, they are popular because they do work. I moved my rank up in Google several places because I added a video to MySpace. The move in rank happened in less than five hours. The higher your rank in Google the more likely you are to get people to click on the link which means more traffic.
So I think they are a great idea, and you can use them to your benefit. You can go to my blog the post is dated early hours of Friday 19th I think.I hope that helps,
Best wishes,
Ruth Stewart

Hello Honey
I agree. I’ve wondered for ages who would be interested in knowing “I just got up late cause I had a bad night” or “I’m going to write an article today - look out for it”.But my view is that I’ve been messing about trying to make money for too long now and I’m prepared to do ANYTHING Alex tells me (well, within reason and my financial abilities!)
Best Wishes

Hi Honey,
Like many other’s I’ve been using Twitter for a few months, not really understanding it’s potential; until Thursday’s module with Alex. During the webinar and the Twitter part, I was looking at some of the people one of my “followers” follows and it was none other than Mark Joyner. So, I started following Mark and we messaged each other a few times. It just showed me how easy and effective it can be. Like Alex said, where else can you connect with people you’ve long admired?
Paula mentioned the addictive nature of it (or any social site, really) and I think it’s true. I have to treat it like any other task on my list with a time limit.
Anyway, I enjoyed chatting with you and like your site. I’ll add you to my blog roll when I get “home”. Stop by and visit . . . I just made some tea, or do you prefer coffee?

Thanks so much Michael, for the offer of your book! You can bet I’ll get it and read it, because even though I’ve been blindly following along adding people that start following me, and twittering when I blog and update my Squidoo lenses, I still don’t understand how it’s helping.
Would love to hear your thoughts on WebProsperity, let me know when you make your post!
Thanks again,
