Traffic, Traffic, Who’s Got the Traffic?

Website traffic. Is there anything more important to an internet marketer? Traffic is the lifeblood of your success online and there’s not much you can do without it. It doesn’t matter how great your product is or how professional your site looks. If you don’t have traffic nothing else really matters.

So what’s the best way to generate traffic to your site? If you ask a dozen internet marketers, you’ll get more than a dozen different answers. There are so many ways to drive traffic to your site, most savvy marketers don’t limit themselves to just one, but instead rely on a combination of methods.

Which I think is part of the reason so many website owners continue to struggle. Yes, it’s smart to use several different methods. But the secret is to use *one* until it’s working well, and only then moving on to another one.

Think about the various ways we’re taught to drive traffic:

    • Pay per click ads
    • Article submission
    • Adding backlinks
    • Video submission
    • Forum marketing
    • Social networking
    • Social bookmarking
    • Viral marketing
    • Search engine submission
    • Webrings
    • List building
    • RSS feeds
    • Giveaways
    • SEO optimization
    • Blogrolls

And there are undoubtedly others I haven’t listed here. The point here is not to list every conceivable method of traffic generation, but to illustrate that there are many, many ways to drive traffic.

Another problem is that just because you drive traffic doesn’t mean it’s quality traffic. It may be completey untargeted for your niche or it may be non-buying traffic. That’s why it’s important to have traffic coming from multiple sources.

Now I’ll be honest with you…I’ve used many of the methods listed above to drive traffic to my sites. But I’ve never tried video.  So my next goal is to dive into an area that has, up to now, frightened me too much to even try.

Somewhere I’ve seen someone’s blog with a post about embedding video on your blog. I’m off to track that down and hopefully will soon be adding video to my blog.

I’d love to hear your experiences, suggestions or tips about using video to drive traffic to your site!

  1. Hi Honey,

The easiest way to put video on your blog is with a plugin called Mediacaster. It will add a button to your html editor you use when writing a post. You click on the button to add a video and it asks you for the URL.

All you have to do is put in the url where your video is located on You Tube or Viddler.

Oh yeah, first you make the video and upload it to You Tube and Viddler. The truth is that if you make a video you should upload it to as many video sites as you can. Check out a free membership site called Tube Moguls for automated distribution.

I am putting together a video on this subject very soon, so pop by the blog when you get a chance.

  2. Hi Honey,

I just came over from JT’s.

That is a darn good tip from JT above. I’m gonna print that off.

Well, soon it will be Christmas so I thought I’d come over and spread a little Christmas cheer, Have you been over to Gary-Land to get your early Christmas present - the “ACTION PLANNER” called “Time in Motion.” Compliments of the Gazz-Man.

    Merry Christmas!

  3. Hi Honey,
Thanks for the comment on my blog.

No, embedding video is pretty easy, but like everything else there’s a little learning curve.

I’d be happy to help you. Just give me a shout and I’ll be over. Actually, I’ll work on a little video taking you through the steps of how to do it.

Nigel, I think is the video expert, too.
    All the best,

  4. Hey Honey,

First of all, it’s great to see that you’re sharing your knowledge to everyone else about driving quality traffic rather than traffic which aimless arrive at your blog and not knowing what to do.

And yeah embedding video is very straight forward and if you have any probs, please feel free to drop me a message or comment and I’ll get back to you asap.

Talking of which, I’ll be sending everyone a viddler section update to the eBook as well - it’s going to help your videos explode over the net.

    All the best
    Nigel
